Mokubee

Opened in 1928 (Showa 3), Kashibei is a 90-year-old restaurant that has been passed down through four generations and has been awarded one Michelin star. The restaurant is conveniently located close to famous sightseeing landmarks such as Kiyomizu Temple and Yasaka Shrine.

The restaurant focuses on seasonal ingredients from various places of production combined with the five methods of "chopping, boiling, steaming, deep-frying, and grilling" to give guests different taste stimulation and amazement throughout the year, while the utensils, which are also important in Kaiseki cuisine, are made of top-quality Kyoyaki, and are paired with Bizen-yaki and Karatsu-yaki, which emphasise the respect for gourmet cuisine.

Established in 1960, Gion Kawakami is tucked away in the middle of Gion Street on Hanami-koji Road. The restaurant is quiet and comfortable, and specialises in light, sweet and savoury kaiseki cuisine.

Sakurada, the chef-owner of Gokoro Izumi, has been awarded 2 Michelin stars since 2015, and is conveniently located on Shijo Shinkai Street near Yasaka Shrine.

The restaurant focuses on combining seasonal ingredients with pure traditional Japanese techniques, and the restaurant's décor is also carefully designed to incorporate the four seasons, allowing guests to enjoy a feast for their taste buds in a space full of mood.

Shimogamosaryou

Founded in 1856, Shimogamo Chalet has been awarded one Michelin star for three consecutive years for its kaiseki cuisine, and is also a long-established local Kyoto restaurant located near the Tadasu-no-mori district of Kyoto.

The restaurant specialises in authentic Kaiseki cuisine using traditional Kyoto vegetables, including Kyoto carrots and Kamo aubergines. The restaurant offers two set menus: Aoi Aoi (Wagyu beef sukiyaki) and Tadasu Tadasu (special Wagyu beef), as well as children's and toddler's menus.

Shouraian

Located at the foot of Arashiyama, one of Kyoto's most famous scenic spots, Matsu Lai-an is a long-established tofu soup restaurant housed in a 120-year-old converted Japanese building, with a Zen-like atmosphere set in the mountains and surrounded by water. The restaurant is fully bookable.

Because of Kyoto's good water quality, the quality of the tofu is excellent, which makes tofu cuisine a local speciality in Kyoto. The restaurant's cooking methods make the seemingly ordinary tofu cuisine exquisite, and it's definitely worth a visit to have a taste of it.
